The Duke of York visited the Imperial West Campus, London on 6th March, 2015 to receive a briefing on their activities. Imperial West is Imperial College’s new hub for Entrepreneurship. The campus provides office and laboratory space for early-stage companies.
HRH was received by Professor David Gann, Imperial College Vice President before visiting the Marketing Suite. The Duke met with senior figures from Imperial Innovations, Imperial Create Lab and Academic Partnerships before receiving presentations on Imperial College innovation and strategy.
Imperial Innovations creates, builds and invests in pioneering technologies developed from the academic research of the UK’s four leading Universities. The Group supports scientists and entrepreneurs in the commercialisation of their ideas providing facilities in the early stages, providing investment and encouraging co-investment to accelerate development. Imperial have been an important Partner of Pitch@Palace. The Winners of the Pitch@Palace 3.0 People’s Choice Award were Team Turquoise from Imperial.
During the visit HRH received presentations from two start-ups based in the laboratories – Fire Tech Camp and Cortexica Vision Systems. The Duke received a tour of the DNAelectronics and GENEU laboratories from founder, Professor Chris Toumazou, Regius Professor of Engineering.
HRH had the opportunity to see the full Imperial West site from the rooftop of UGLI Campus. Once complete, the site will provide multidisciplinary research space for scientists and engineers to tackle some of the global challenges faced today. Plans for the site include a publicly accessible square, accommodation, leisure and retail facilities, a conference centre, and homes.
