Princess Beatrice

Princess Beatrice Elizabeth Mary of York was born on 8th August, 1988 at The Portland Hospital, London, the first child of The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, and fifth grandchild of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. HRH is sixth, and the first female, in the line of succession to the throne of the UK and 15 other Commonwealth realms.

Princess Beatrice’s primary education was undertaken at Upton House School and Coworth Park School. HRH then attended St. George’s School in Ascot from 2000 to 2007, completing A-Levels in Drama, History and Film Studies. In her final year at St. George’s Princess Beatrice was Head Girl.

In September 2008, HRH started a three year course studying for a BA in History and History of Ideas at Goldsmiths College, London. Princess Beatrice graduated in 2011 with a 2:1 degree.

In 2007, Princess Beatrice became a global ambassador for Children in Crisis, a charity founded by her mother, Sarah, Duchess of York in 1993. The charity aims to help educate children and women in some of the poorest countries.

In April 2010, HRH became the first member of the Royal Family to complete the London Marathon, running with friends to raise money as part of ‘Team Caterpillar’, which supported a number of charities.

Princess Beatrice, along with six friends, also founded The Big Change Charitable Trust, which identifies and supports projects that improve the lives of young people. The Big Change also works in partnership with charitable projects throughout the UK which inspire and encourage young people to be the very best that they can be. In September 2012, HRH alongside her fellow founders climbed Mont Blanc in The Big Change’s first fundraising project: The Big Climb.

Princess Beatrice is Patron of the York Musical Society, the York Theatre Royal, The Sick Kids Friends Foundation, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice and Broomwood African Education Foundation, and is Ambassador to Teenage Cancer Trust. HRH is dyslexic and as such is interested in charities involved with dyslexia and learning difficulties. Princess Beatrice is Patron of the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre.
