Ladder for the Black Country and Staffordshire: Duke of York gives royal approval for apprentices

It started out with a challenge from the Duke of York to become a ‘local solution’ to the problem of youth unemployment across the region.

Now the Ladder campaigns – which have expanded to include the Black Country, Staffordshire and Shropshire – have led to the creation of more than 1,000 apprenticeships.

Representatives from the Express & Star and its partners, including the Vine Trust and Performance Through People (PTP), attended an event hosted by the Duke at St James’s Palace to mark the milestone.

Duke of York officially opens new KPMG office

KPMG’s new Leeds office in Sovereign Square has been officially opened by Prince Andrew after the Duke of York toured the building and spent time with employees, clients and local school pupils.

Watched by hundreds of KPMG partners, staff, members of the business community and public sector figures, the duke unveiled a commemorative plaque and spoke of his pleasure to be celebrating the investment in the city.

“I am impressed with this particular building as it is right for everyone to use together, in an efficient manner, communicating with one another, which raises productivity,” said Prince Andrew.

Busy day on campus for the University’s Chancellor

ON his latest visit to the University of Huddersfield, His Royal Highness The Duke of York, KG, met some of the brightest young businesspeople in the North of England and he hailed the burgeoning role played by universities in boosting enterprise.

His Royal Highness is Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield, which for the past three years has hosted The Duke of York Young Entrepreneur Awards. Previously, limited to undergraduates and recent graduates of Yorkshire universities, the scheme has now been opened up to the whole region. As a result, the 2016 contest had finalists from 19 universities throughout the North.

Duke of York honours young business stars at University of Huddersfield

And they got the Royal seal of approval in Huddersfield.

The Duke of York returned to the University of Huddersfield to present his own Young Entrepreneur Awards to 19 student businesses from universities across the North of England.

The Royal guest, who is Chancellor of the University, was at the Queensgate campus for more than two hours to present current students and recent graduates at universities across the North of England with awards marking the success of their start-up business.

Ashridge House welcomes a royal visitor

On Wednesday 13th April 2016, HRH Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, visited Ashridge House, home to Ashridge Executive Education (part of Hult International Business School) near Berkhamsted.

This was the first royal to visit Ashridge House since 1823, when a very young Queen Victoria visited and planted an oak tree that survives to this day on the South Lawn.

The Duke’s visit had a dual purpose: to see and understand what Ashridge offers from an education perspective, as well as to open our refurbished East Wing and The Duke of York room within it. The East Wing of the House, sits on the site of what was the White Lodge, which along with the Red Lodge flanked the monastic house as it was during Elizabeth I’s time. Read More
