The Duke of York’s visit to India comes to an end in Bangalore

The Duke of York began the final morning of his Diamond Jubilee visit to India with a meeting with His Excellency Mr. Hans Raj Bharadwaj, the Governor of Karnataka, where they discussed the bilateral relationship between the UK and India, as well as the political and economic environment both within Karnataka and India as a whole.

In Bangalore, Infosys have a modern, state-of-the-art campus. The Duke of York visited this facility in 2008 on his last visit to Bangalore and returned to see how it has developed since. On his previous visit, His Royal Highness planted a tree on the site, and The Duke of York had the opportunity to see how it had grown as well as water it

During the visit His Royal Highness had the opportunity to see some of the latest innovative projects being undertaken by Infosys. These initiatives have a wide variety of applications, both within India and worldwide. The Duke of York has previously met the CEO and Managing Director of Infosys, S. D. Shibulal, most recently in Davos, where one of their areas of discussion was Infosys’ operations in the United Kingdom, as well as the value of apprenticeships to educating and developing Britain’s young people. Infosys representatives also attended a Round Table discussing apprenticeships at Buckingham Palace in February of this year.

As a result of these and other meetings Infosys UK have announced their intention to launch an Apprenticeship Programme in the UK, starting this September. During the visit, His Royal Highness witnessed Infosys’ formal commitment to apprenticeships in the UK.

[Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), headquartered in Bangalore, is one of Asia’s largest aeronautics companies and is the largest operator of the Hawk globally. The Duke of York visited HAL’s facility to discuss their manufacturing and engineering operations and to view a number of their workshops. The visit demonstrated the value of technology collaboration, as well as being an example of an established India-UK defence and industrial partnership.

The Duke of York’s visit to Bangalore, and India, concluded with a Round Table discussion on Science and Engineering in India. He was joined by key scientists from renowned research institutions such as the National Institute of Advanced Studies and the Institute of Information Technology, as well as representatives from engineering firms, Rolls Royce, BAE Systems and Happiest Minds.
