Team UK’s 43 members have been selected to represent the UK against the world’s most highly skilled students, apprentices and employees at WorldSkills London 2011. The Team, their training managers and their employers attended a Reception at Buckingham Palace, given by The Duke of York, to recognise their achievements.

The team members have spent the last 18 months in selection competitions and intensive training programmes to reach the necessary international standards in their chosen skills,  and earning their place at WorldSkills London 2011.

Team UK will continue their intensive training programme, with each member supported by a dedicated Training Manager. The Team hopes to beat the 6th position awarded to Team UK at World Skills Calgary 2009.

In his speech, His Royal Highness congratulated the assembled competitors on their achievements and wished them every success in the competition in October 2011. The Duke of York also stressed the importance to the UK economy of young people taking up vocational skills and practical learning. HRH enjoyed meeting the competitors and supporters, and learning about their various skills.

It is hoped that WorldSkills London 2011 will focus attention on this critical area of the economy, and inspire future generations of skilled, high-quality professionals.
