In 2001, after serving for 22 years in the Royal Navy, The Duke of York was invited to take on the role of the UK’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment.
As part of UK Trade & Investment’s ongoing work to raise awareness of UK aerospace capabilities, UKTI, METI, SBAC, and SJAC are organising a major Aerospace conference to be held in Tokyo from 30 May to 1 June 2007. The conference will be attended by The Duke of York.
The conference will offer the opportunity for British businesses to meet with senior UK and Japanese industrialists and gain visibility for UK products and services. Their aim is to generate greater strategic resolve between UK and Japanese government officials, senior industrialists, and educational institutions to increase collaborative efforts in policy, manufacturing, and R&D.
The conference will focus on current and possible future collaboration in the UK/Japan Aerospace Industry and will have four sub-themes, Civil Aerospace, Defence Aerospace, Space Technology, and Sustainable Aviation.
The Japanese With imports in excess of US$6 billion annually and government backed ambitions of capturing 15% of the global aerospace market by 2025, the Japanese aerospace market offers significant opportunities for UK industry.
In addition Japan is attempting to develop many specialised aerospace technologies that will be complimentary to those of the UK and may present opportunities for joint development. Given the UK’s strong links with the US and the nature of our aerospace industry, the UK is a natural partner for Japan.
Successes in recent years by companies such as Rolls Royce (Trent 1000 selected by ANA for 787) and AgustaWestland (EH101) suggest that Japan is more open to non-US purchases than ever before.
Contact the UKTI Press Office for further information about the conference.
