The Duke of York visited the Turnpike Centre in Wigan on 27 April, 2018.
HRH heard how Wigan Council has been using The Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award (iDEA) to help residents such as school pupils, apprentices, pensioners, job seekers and families. The Duke of York met representatives from Wigan Council and the Digital Wigan Taskforce, and presented the Bronze Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award to employees, community group leaders, learners, apprentices and students.
In June 2018, Wigan Council won a national award in recognition of the work they have done rolling out iDEA to help all of their residents develop digital skills. They won the Digital Skills or Inclusion Initiative of the Year category in the prestigious Digital Leaders 100 Awards.
iDEA aims to equip people with digital and enterprise skills. Wigan Council was the first local authority to be made an iDEA Pioneer institution. To find out more about iDEA click here.
