BACKThe Duke of York showcases new UK technology @ 3GSM Barcelona
HRH, the Duke of York will support the UK telecommunications industry with a visit to this year’s 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona. He will meet UK companies exhibiting on the UK showcase stand (AV26) in his capacity as UK Trade & Investment’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment.
The UK is likely to have the largest single country presence at 3GSM 2007, with around 300 companies exhibiting.
HRH said:
“I am delighted to attend 3GSM in Barcelona where once again the UK has such a large presence. This is a valuable industry, with over 8,000 companies and is one of the largest in Europe with a turnover of over £46bn in 2005.
“The UK’s world-class R&D facilities continue to play a key role in the success of our industry. Companies continue to develop leading-edge technology that helps to ensure that the UK remains a world leader in the communications field.”
Andrew Cahn, Chief Executive, UK Trade &Investment who is accompanying HRH at 3GSM said:
“UK consumers now buy more music and mobile downloads than the rest of Europe and broadband take up at 39% is significantly greater than USA, France and Germany. There are tremendous opportunities in the UK for companies in this exciting and competitive sector.”
One example of UK innovation on show at the UK Stand is Unique Interactive: a company that offers Digital Music Download – the worlds first mobile impulse purchase music download service for digital radio services -launching on DAB but available on all digital platforms. (www.unique.com).
It uses the compact combination of a phone, a DAB digital radio receiver and an mp3 player. DMD is dual download – for every download purchase another is sent to your account for home PC downloading.
UKTI plays a key role at 3GSM by promoting the UK as a centre of innovation in wireless and mobile communications. They also organise the UK stand at 3GSM as a well as a series of network events aimed at facilitating trade and investment leads.
