This year, The Duke of York Young Champions Trophy was held at The Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, Scotland from 16th to 18th September, 2014. The Championship has now been running for 14 years. HRH founded the Championship to encourage the worldwide development of golf and create opportunities for young people to get involved in the sport.
The Duke of York Young Championship Trophy is a series of three rounds played over three days. At this year’s competition, Gisli Sveinbergsson from Iceland held the lead throughout the tournament.
Fog from the North Sea meant that play on day three was suspended and the 54-hole strokeplay had to be reduced to 36. Iceland’s Gisli Sveinbergsson won the trophy four strokes clear of Japan’s Ren Okazaki. Sveinbergsson is the third Icelandic winner of the competition since its launch in 2001. Gisli said, “This is definitely my best achievement so far.”
