UK Tech Reception

On 9th June, The Duke of York attended a UK Technology Reception hosted by The Queen at Buckingham Palace to celebrate British success in Technology. Her Majesty and The Duke of Edinburgh received around 350 guests from across the UK representing all areas of the sector from biomedical to digital technology.

Her Majesty visited a range of displays showcasing UK Tech innovation from Bristol-based OC Robotics, which manufactures ‘snake-arm robots’ for work in confined, hazardous spaces to Cambridge-based Raspberry Pis, a micro-computer project for young people. His Royal Highness also had the opportunity to introduce The Queen to Nominet Trust, which invests in technology for social innovation, and have, alongside The Duke of York, recently launched the iDEA Award, which aims to inspire digital enterprise and entrepreneurship in young people.

Her Majesty was also introduced to another of Nominet’s ventures, Speakset, a device that allows older people face-to-face contact with anyone anywhere in the world using their TV in their own home. The Queen phoned an elderly member of the community using the device and greeted him with: “Hello, very nice to see you this evening”.
