Message of Congratulations to Studio Schools Trust

The Duke of York has sent a message of congratulations to the Studio Schools Trust, and all the teachers, students, parents and businesses involved, following the World Innovation Summit for Education short-listing them among the most innovative developments in education.

I am delighted that Studio Schools have been recognised by the World Innovation Summit for Education as one of the fourteen most innovative projects in global education. As Patron of the Studio Schools Trust I have seen first-hand the impact that these schools have in developing employability skills and experience for young people.

Studio Schools aim to teach 14-19 year olds through enterprise projects and real work. This approach ensures student learning is rooted in the real world and helps them develop the skills they need to flourish in life and work. The schools have around 300 students and operate the year-round, with a nine to five work day to simulate a working environment. Working closely with local employers, Studio Schools offer a range of academic and vocational qualifications, including GCSEs in English, Maths and Science, as well as paid work placements linked directly to employment opportunities in the local area.

The Duke became Patron of Studio Schools Trust in 2013 and supports the Studio School movement in its ambition to create more employment focused education options for those young people who are more suited to such routes.
