A placement at The Palace

The Duke of York’s office endeavours to support young people through work experience placements. Here, Anastasia Chinery talks of her time on placement.

In 2013 I was studying at The Peter Jones Enterprise Academy in Southend. I independently searched for a work experience placement, which was required as part of my course, and I looked for something which involved events as this is where my passion lies.

When I started my week of work experience in The Duke of York’s office I could not believe I had managed to secure such an exciting placement. During the time I spent at Buckingham Palace I learnt a great deal, about not only the events that take place, but also about how to develop my personal strengths. A particularly valuable experience was I shadowed different people in the office and helping them with their tasks.

My placement opened my eyes to what it is like in a professional workplace where they have multiple events every day, each of which are important and prestigious. I think the most valuable thing that I learnt from my time working within The Duke’s office is to believe in myself.

Whenever I doubt my capabilities I always think back to the week I spent there and remember that anything I wish to achieve is possible.
