The Society of Editors Regional Meeting

On the 7th April 2014, HRH The Duke of York attended the Society of Editors Regional Meeting to discuss Apprentices in journalism.

The Duke had the opportunity to speak with young people who have obtained an apprenticeship in the journalism industry.

HRH spoke also with Bob Satchwell, Director of Society of Editors in the UK, to discuss Apprenticeship schemes and their benefits to the Journalism industry, as well as ways to increase the number of Apprentices taken on by organisations. The aim is to give young people a better understanding of the environment they wish to work in.

The Duke is Patron of Ladder for London, an initiative to encourage companies of all sizes to take one or more Apprentices, run in partnership with the Evening Standard. HRH has also expressed his support of newspapers launching similar campaign models in other regions, such as Cambridge, Kent, Belfast, Leeds, Swindon and Darlington.

HRH, who is a great supporter of Apprenticeship schemes for young people, said – “Only through this experience can you provide what is wanted by young people and what the business need.”
