The Duke of York is Patron of TeenTech, an initiative that runs large scale, interactive events to help young people, their teachers and parents see the real career opportunities in Science, Technology and Engineering.
On Monday 1st July 2013, The Duke hosted a Prizegiving in Buckingham Palace for the first ever TeenTech Awards. The winning teams had been selected by judges from the fields of science, engineering and the media.
HRH met with each student and their teachers to learn more about their exciting ideas and projects before presenting certificates to the winning teams.
The overall winners were Loreto Grammar School from Altrincham who have created a bracelet for diabetics that acts as a blood glucose checker.

Wirral Grammar School, Bebington, Merseyside with “Sporting Commandos – The Creative Court” – a court which uses lights to set lines for the sport that the person wishes to play.
Future of Food Category
Luckley-Oakfield School, Wokingham, Berkshire with “A Fridge With Attitude”. Their idea is a fridge which uses technology to scan food and take in information, for example, the expiry date and the original weight (before it was used). The fridge can also weigh this food so it knows when a food is starting to run out and how much has been used.
Transport Category
Luckley Oakfield, Wokingham Berkshire with “Truly You” – a car that can be personalised like all other gadgets and can detect the mood of the driver to make the driving experience safer.
Environment Category
Notre Dame High School, Greenock, Scotland with “Chargicle” – their idea is a bike attachment which charges iPads or Tablet through pedal power.
Education Category
Loughborough Grammar School, Leicester for “Project E.A.G.L.E” – an app that has many features designed to make school life for pupils and teachers easier.
Wearable Technology Category
Welland Park Academy, Leicestershire for “Pressure Boots” – a shoe which harnesses power while you walk to charge up a mobile device, like a phone or an MP3 player.

Archbishop Sentamu School, Hull for “Future School” – a design for a sustainable school of the future.
Entertainment Category
Birkdale School, Sheffield, South Yorkshire – a Graphic and Game Design project called “Deep Focus”.
Communication Category
The Hayfield School, Doncaster, South Yorkshire for “Dimension” – a 3-D Projector – their idea is a holographic projector which could be used in schools, the medical profession, in the military and in industry.

Parkside Federation Academies, Cambridge for “Descending Under the Ice – A Snowball Earth” – an article on the causes and effects of the snowball earth theory.
