The Duke of York Young Entrepreneur Awards

On 8th May 2014, The Duke visited The University of Huddersfield give out The Duke of York Young Entrepreneur Awards.

HRH visited the Buckley Innovation Centre where his Young Entrepreneur Award was launched in May 2013. The Duke was welcomed by Professor Bob Cryan, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Huddersfield; HRH then had the opportunity to meet Students and Mentors in The Duke of York Young Entrepreneur Centre.

HRH presented The Duke of York Young Entrepreneur Award to ten companies, one from each of the Yorkshire Universities, who have set up their own businesses.

The winners are:

University of Bradford – Daylui-Esquoia

Leeds Trinity University – ShoPING Ltd

The unique aspect of this application allows retail outlets to instantly target consumers using location based technology. Shoppers download the app and choose what types of categories they are interested in, from shoes to music or restaurants and cafes. When they are close to a shop that is listed in one of the categories, they will receive an automated notification with the message or offer from a close-by retail outlet.

Sheffield Hallam University – Really NEET

In March 2011, Sophie Maxwell founded the Really NEET College. The Really NEET project is a College for young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET). The company has created a safe learning environment for young people from a variety of backgrounds. They may be homeless, a young parent, on probation, fed up with main stream education, a care leaver, need smaller groups to work in or want to learn outside of the box.
