OVERVIEW

Ancient in origin but modern in its working practices, the Royal Household is the organisation which supports The Queen in her official duties.

Members of the Royal Household carry out the work and roles which were historically performed by courtiers.

Today’s organisation is divided into five departments covering a broad range of professional skills and disciplines, from catering and ceremonial to accountancy and art curatorship.

In addition to The Queen’s Household, the Royal Household includes the Households of other members of the Royal Family who undertake public engagements.

Read more about the people and departments which make up the Royal Household in this section of the web site.
