The Duke of York becomes Chancellor of The University of Huddersfield

The Duke of York visited Huddersfield on 13th July, 2015. HRH was awarded an Honorary Doctorate and then installed as the Chancellor of The University of Huddersfield, taking over from Sir Patrick Stewart who has been Chancellor since 2004.

Based in West Yorkshire, The University of Huddersfield provides outstanding academic education. It was awarded University of the Year in 2013 and has been praised for dedication to teaching excellence and the establishment of a new innovation centre. The University of Huddersfield continues to excel, winning numerous awards in enterprise, student satisfaction, and employability. The Duke said “This University is renowned for preparing and equipping students for the world of work, whatever their chosen path. This university is going places.”

Sir Patrick Stewart received the title Chancellor Emeritus and pledged to keep his close connection with the University.

Closing the ceremony with a tribute to the Chancellor Emeritus, HRH said “Thank you Patrick Stewart – there is only one good way to say farewell – live long and prosper.”

The Duke hosted the Chancellors Dinner with key representatives from the community that support The University of Huddersfield.
