The Duke of York Young Champions Trophy hosted 54 junior golfers from 30 countries at Castle Stuart Golf Links from 17th – 20th September, 2018.
Castle Stuart opened in 2009 close to Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. The course overlooks the Moray Firth and local landmarks such as; Kessock Bridge, Chanonry Lighthouse, Fort George and Ben Wyvis. Castle Stuart has already held the Scottish Open on four occasions and regularly holds its place in Golf Digest’s Top 100 Courses.
During the tournament, the players were faced with challenging weather conditions, with gusts of 40+ mph winds and torrential downpours. Every other tournament in Scotland on Day 2 was either cancelled or postponed. The Final Round’s play was also hampered by continued windy conditions.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, Christopher Vandette from Canada shot a 71 (6 shots better than anyone else on the day) to climb the leaderboard and was the overall winner after a sudden-death play-off with Joseph Byrne from Ireland.
