HRH The Duke of York, KG Visits China – Day 1 and 2

One Shenzhen Bay
On arrival in Shenzhen, The Duke attended at dinner at One Shenzhen Bay where HRH met senior Business Leaders from the Region.

Huawei
Today, The Duke of York began nine days of engagements in China, starting in Shenzhen with a visit to Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) and smart devices, which operates in more than 170 countries and regions worldwide.
HRH was received by Mr William Xu, Director of the Board and Chief Strategy Marketing Officer where he received an update from Huawei including a tour of the exhibition centre which demonstrated the company’s work across four key domains; telecoms network, IT, smart devices and cloud services. The Duke was pleased to hear of Huawei’s recent commitment for a further $3 Billion of investment in the UK focussed on Research and Development.

Tencent
The Duke then visited Tencent, a leading social platform and digital content provider in China. HRH was received by Mr Pony Ma, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, and given a tour of the showroom, which demonstrated the many platforms that Tencent operates, including QQ with 280 million active users a day and WeChat, launched in 2011, now with over 1 billion users worldwide. The Duke then held discussions with Mr Pony Ma and colleagues to discuss how Tencent is fostering innovation and entrepreneurship developing collaborations and partnerships in the UK.

Guizhou
HRH then travelled to Guizhou where he was received by Shen Yiqin, the Governor of Guizhou, who gave a dinner to mark The Duke’s visit. HRH received the Governor during her visit to the UK in May, 2018.
