China International Big Data Industry Expo
Today, The Duke of York attended the China International Big Data Industry Expo 2018, the world’s first big-data-themed Expo, which has been held for the last three years in Guizhou. The Expo has helped to drive renowned domestic and foreign enterprises, including Huawei, Qualcomm and Apple to Guizhou, who have since all settled there, and in 2017 there were over 8,900 big data enterprises in Guizhou, and the total sale of its big data industry reached Yuan 110 billion. HRH visited the Expo’s Exhibition Centre where he was given a tour of a number of stands, including China’s largest internet security provider: 360 Enterprise Security Group, Tencent and Alibaba. The Duke then attended the opening of the Big Data Expo Conference where Mr Wang Chen, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress delivered a message of good wishes for Big Data EXPO from President Xi. HRH spoke about the opportunities for the UK and China to collaborate on the application and governance of Big Data ensuring it works in an ethical and responsible way.
Guizhou University
Later The Duke, travelled to Guizhou University where he was received by Song Baoan, President of the University, Zhang Dalin, Director of the President’s Office and Hong Yun, Director of the Office of International Relations. HRH discussed opportunities for greater collaboration between Guizhou University and the UK and in particular, Huddersfield University.
Later, The Duke visited the Innovation Centre where he met a number of students who presented their work, including a dancing robot and a working model of a roof top car park. HRH then visited the University’s Academy of Chinese Culture where students performed a dance of Ethnic Minorities. Finally, Professor Bob Cryan, Vice Chancellor of The University of Huddersfield and Song Baoan, President of Guizhou University, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish greater cooperation between both universities to develop vocational training programmes in both the UK and China.
