HRH The Duke of York, KG visits China – Day 5 and 6

dinner given by President Xi Jinping for the China International Import Exposition at the Shanghai International Convention Centre.

Yesterday The Duke of York attended the Pledge for Progress Roundtable – a campaign launched by the UK Government in May 2018 to inspire practical action on furthering gender equality in the workplace.

HRH then attended a lunch given by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Madame Fu Ying.

The Duke of York later attended a dinner given by President Xi Jinping for the China International Import Exposition at the Shanghai International Convention Centre.

Today, HRH attended the Opening of the inaugural China International Import Expo (CIIE) by President Xi Jinping at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre, Shanghai, China. The Duke of York led the UK delegation attending CIIE, accompanied by International Trade Secretary Dr Liam Fox MP. The UK has been named as a “Country of Honour” at China’s biggest international trade show.

Held in Shanghai, the CIIE provides a platform for Chinese businesses, investors and consumers to connect with UK companies and strengthen long-term partnerships. The theme of the UK Pavilion is Innovation is GREAT and included cutting-edge virtual reality and augmented reality.

That afternoon, HRH attended a Luncheon given by the Bank of China at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre, before calling on upon Mr. Jack. Ma (Founder and Executive Chairman of the Alibaba Group) at the Intercontinental Shanghai Hongqiao, Shanghai.

Later that day, The Duke of York called upon Mr. Tang Deng Jie (Governor of Fujian Province) at the Huating Hotel, Shanghai, before attending a dinner for supporters of the United Kingdom Pavilion that evening.
