The Duke of York was welcomed to Halifax, Canada by the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, Arthur J. LeBlanc at Government House. The Princess Louise Fusiliers (PLF), of which His Royal Highness is Colonel-in-Chief, provided the Guard of Honour.
At Government House, which is the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor, The Duke had meetings with the Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, the Commander of the Maritime Forces Atlantic/Joint Task Force Atlantic, Rear-Admiral Craig Baines and the Commander of 36 Canadian Brigade Group, Colonel J.W. MacDonald.
His Royal Highness later met the Commanding Officer of The Princess Louise Fusiliers and unveiled the Commemorative Mounting of the 150th Anniversary First Day Cover for PLF Officers’ Mess.
2019 marks the 150th Anniversary of the formation of the PLF, which was renamed in 1879 after HRH’s great-great-great Aunt, Princess Louise, daughter of Queen Victoria and wife of the Marquess of Lorne, Governor General of Canada at that time. In 1901, Regiment received new Colours from The Duke of York (later George V) during his tour of the country.
To mark the occasion, The Duke attended a special reception and joined the Regiment for a special 150th Anniversary Regimental photo.
